Waterproofing Materials

Waterproofing materials for basements, roofs and wet areas

Water that gets into a building causes damp, mould and damage to the structure, so the waterproofing product has to suit the surface, where it is and how the water arrives: rain on a flat roof, groundwater against a basement wall or daily water in a shower. This category brings together our own-brand S4Proof liquid waterproofing range, the primer, curing and repair products that go with it, and Terraco Flexicoat for flat roofs.

The range at a glance

  • S4Proof CA, cement and acrylic based, two-component: CA 60 (super elastic), CA 61 (fully elastic), CA 62 (semi elastic) and CA 63 White (fully elastic, UV resistant).
  • S4Proof BT, modified bitumen-rubber based, waterborne: single-component BT 50 and BT 40 (with crack-bridging features), and two-component, cement-modified BT 51 and BT 41 (with crack-bridging features).
  • S4Proof BP 31: two-component bitumen-polyurethane liquid waterproofing.
  • S4Proof AC 50: single-component, UV-resistant elastomeric resin liquid waterproofing.
  • S4Proof CC 70: single-component, cement-based crystallised waterproofing.
  • S4Proof RP 71: single-component, ultra-rapid-setting cement mortar for plugging water leaks.
  • S4Proof SS 80: colourless, UV-resistant silica-silicate water repellent and surface protector.
  • S4Prime BP 40: single-component, bitumen-based waterproofing primer.
  • S4Cure AC 10: single-component, solvent-free curing material.
  • Terraco Flexicoat: elastomeric waterproof acrylic coating for flat roofs.

Cement, bitumen-rubber or acrylic: which type?

  • Cement-based (S4Proof CA, CC 70 and RP 71): mineral systems for concrete and masonry substrates.
  • Bitumen-rubber based (S4Proof BT and BP 31): flexible bituminous membranes, generally used on foundations and below-ground walls that are covered after application.
  • Acrylic and elastomeric resin (S4Proof AC 50, CA 63 White and Terraco Flexicoat): coatings sold as UV resistant or for flat roofs, for surfaces that stay exposed.

Each product’s data sheet sets out the substrates, surface preparation and conditions it needs. Check it before you choose, and ask our team if you are unsure which system fits your project.

Frequently asked questions

What are waterproofing materials used for?

They stop water getting into buildings and structures. They are applied to basements, roofs, walls and wet areas such as bathrooms, forming a barrier that helps prevent damp, mould and structural damage.

How do I choose the right waterproofing product?

Start with the surface, where it is and how the water arrives, then compare the product types above. The product data sheet confirms whether a system suits your substrate and exposure.

Do I need a primer?

Some systems use one. S4Prime BP 40 is the bitumen-based primer in the range; the data sheet of the waterproofing product says whether your substrate needs priming.

Which brands are in this category?

Our own-brand S4Proof, S4Prime and S4Cure ranges, and Terraco.
