Sika Aktivator 205

Sika Aktivator 205

Transparent solvent-based adhesion promoter for non-porous substrates
Sika® Aktivator-205 is a solvent-based colourless clear adhesion promoter, which reacts with moisture and deposits active groups on the substrate. These groups act as a link between substrates and primers or sealants / adhesives. Sika® Aktivator-205 is designed for the treatment of bond faces prior to application of Sikaflex® and Sikasil® adhesives and sealants.

Description

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Product Code: SKCLN205L

Sika Aktivator with it’s alcohol solution, contains a bond activating substance designed for the activation of surfaces prior to bonding and sealing with Sikaflex products.

Sika® Aktivator-205 is used to activate the following non-porous substrates:

metals, plastics, glazed ceramics, painted surfaces.

This product is suitable for professional experienced users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

Usage

Sika® Aktivator-205 is used to improve adhesion on non-porous substrates such as metals, plastics, ceramic screen prints and painted surfaces. Seek manufacturer’s advice and perform tests on original substrates before using Sika® Aktivator-205 on materials prone to stress cracking. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

Where Sika Aktivator 205 fits

Sika designed Sika Aktivator-205 for treating bond faces before Sikaflex and Sikasil adhesives and sealants. It is a separate step from cleaning: remove heavy contamination first, for example with Sika Remover-208, or clean with Sika Cleaner P where the data sheet of your adhesive calls for it. Sika Aktivator 205, Sika Cleaner P and Sika Remover-208 are not interchangeable, so follow each product’s own instructions and the Sika pre-treatment chart for your substrate.

It is used with Sikaflex adhesives and sealants such as Sikaflex 252 600ml and Sikaflex 522 Caravan Sealant & Adhesive where the pre-treatment chart calls for it. See the full pre-treatments and primers range.

Primer Product Benefits

Advantages

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dust and contaminants.

Adhesion on substrates may be improved by adding and/or combining pre-treatment processes such as scuffing and cleaning prior the activator application.

Primer Application

Wipe bond faces with a clean, lint-free paper towel moistened (not wet) with Sika® Aktivator-205. Never dip the towel into the activator. Only wipe the surface with a clean side of the towel. Do not moisten the same paper towel twice and change it frequently.

Sika® Aktivator-205 has to be applied sparingly as excess of activator could lead to adhesion failure.

If the pre-treated area is not bonded within the maximum flash-off time, the activation process has to be repeated (once only).

Ideal application and surface temperature is between 15 °C and 25 °C.

Consumption and method of application depends on the specific nature of the substrates.

Tightly reseal container immediately after each use.

Sika Aktivator 205: Adhesion Promoter for Non-Porous Bond Faces

In the realm of construction and manufacturing, the importance of reliable adhesion cannot be overstated. Whether it’s automotive assembly, window installation, or marine applications, a strong bond is the foundation of durability and longevity. Sika Aktivator 205 is an adhesion promoter used to prepare non-porous bond faces before Sika sealants and adhesives are applied. In this blog post, we’ll dive deep into the world of Sika Aktivator 205, exploring its features, benefits, and the myriad ways it can be applied to improve your projects.

What is Sika Aktivator 205?

Sika Aktivator 205 is a solvent-based clear adhesion-promoting agent specially formulated to improve the adhesion of Sika sealants and adhesives on non-porous substrates. It is a versatile solution that can be used across a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, and painted surfaces. Sika describes it as suitable for experienced professional users.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Adhesion: Sika Aktivator 205 is used to improve adhesion on non-porous substrates before bonding or sealing.
  • Substrates: Sika lists non-porous substrates such as metals, plastics, ceramic screen prints and painted surfaces; test on the actual material first.
  • Application: wipe on with a clean, lint-free paper towel, as described in Sika’s method on this page.
  • Use with: Sika designed it for bond faces before Sikaflex and Sikasil adhesives and sealants.

Applications

Typical applications include:

  • Automotive Assembly: preparing bond faces on vehicle components before bonding or sealing.
  • Marine Construction: preparing bond faces before sealing and bonding work.
  • Window and Door Installation: preparing frames and surrounds before sealing.
  • Manufacturing and Fabrication: preparing components before bonding in assembly.

How to Use Sika Aktivator 205

Clean the surface first, then wipe the bond face with a clean, lint-free paper towel moistened (not wet) with Sika Aktivator 205, following Sika’s method on this page. Allow the flash-off time given in the current Sika data sheet before you apply the sealant or adhesive.

Conclusion

Sika Aktivator 205 is one step in surface preparation: clean first, activate where the Sika pre-treatment chart calls for it, then bond or seal within the time the data sheet allows.
