Fire collars for pipe penetrations

A fire collar is fitted around a plastic pipe where it passes through a fire-resisting wall or floor. Inside the collar is an intumescent material that expands when heated: as the pipe softens and burns away, the expanding material closes the opening and helps stop fire and smoke passing between compartments. Collars are fixed to the face of the wall or the underside of the floor, so they stay visible; where the seal has to sit inside the opening, a pipe wrap is used instead.

fischer Fire Collars – FFC

The fischer FFC fire collar is a powder-coated cylindrical steel sleeve containing a graphite-based intumescent material. fischer lists it for non-metallic pipes in flexible and rigid walls and in solid concrete and hollow precast floors, under European Technical Assessment ETA-20/1066 (Declaration of Performance FS-1008). In fischer’s system, gaps up to 10 mm around the collar are backfilled with fischer FiAM, and larger annular spaces are closed with FCPS or FFSC. Fire resistance depends on the tested configuration, so check the assessment against your pipe, wall or floor before you install.
